Website design
Web design for nurseries, built for the 2026 rules
A nursery website has four jobs: show parents where you are and what you charge, take the enquiry into your software, survive an Ofsted framework change, and be found by neighbourhood. This is how we build each one.
Nursery website design is the building of a website for a day nursery, pre-school or early years setting, shaped around the four things a parent looks for before enquiring: where you are, what you charge, what the rooms are like, and how to get in touch. In the UK it costs roughly £1,000 to £6,000 as a one-off build. Ours start at £1,495 and go live in two to six weeks.
What every build includes
The fees and funded hours page
Built to the DfE statutory guidance valid from April 2026: funded hours free at the point of access, extras listed as voluntary with opt-outs, no deposit or registration fee tied to a funded place, and charges published where a parent can find them. The DfE chargeable extras template sits underneath it.
Room pages
One per room with ages, ratios, a typical day, the key person approach and what to bring. Parents shortlist by room, not by nursery.
Ofsted, the report card way
From November 2025 inspections produce a colour-coded report card across evaluation areas rather than a single word. We display the areas, link the QR badge to your report, and keep an official logo only where you still hold the right to use it.
Enquiry form into your software
Famly, Ovivio, eyworks and Nursery in a Box forms embedded so every enquiry is tracked from first click. A fallback form for settings without them.
District pages
A page for each neighbourhood you draw from, with its own copy and its own directions. Parents search "nursery [district]", not "nursery [borough]".
Recruitment page
Seven in ten nurseries say they cannot staff to capacity (NDNA, June 2025). A careers page with vacancy schema is part of every build above Starter.
What we will not build
A few things that look normal on nursery websites and are not.
A fees page that says "call us"
The April 2026 guidance says charges should be clear, up to date and easily accessible. Hiding them costs you the parents who compare at night, and it is out of step with the rules.
A gallery without consent records
Photos of children used for promotion are personal data. We do not publish any image of a child without recorded parental permission and a way to withdraw it.
An "Outstanding" badge you no longer hold
Ofsted permits the logo only until your next inspection, which will not give an overall grade. Keeping it after that is a misleading claim under the CAP Code.

How a build runs, start to finish
Four steps. You see a fixed price and a page plan before anything is designed.
1. Tell us about your nursery
Four details in the form. Then a short brief: rooms, ages, fees, funded hours, any software you use, the towns you draw from.
2. You get your quote
A fixed price, a page plan and a live date, within one working day. No call, unless you want one.
3. Design and build
You see a design first. Two rounds of revisions. Then we build every page and connect your enquiry form to your software.
4. Live in 2 to 6 weeks
We handle domain and hosting. You get a written handover and a care plan from £50 a month.
Us, a website builder, or a generalist agency
Three honest routes to a nursery website. Which one is right depends on how much of it you want to do yourself.
| Template builder | Generalist web agency | Full Rooms Websites | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | £15 to £40 a month, plus your evenings | £2,500 to £10,000 | £1,495 to £5,995 fixed, plus £50 a month care plan |
| Fees page to the April 2026 DfE rules | You write it | Only if you brief it | Built in, with the DfE chargeable extras template underneath |
| Ofsted report cards, from November 2025 | Not handled | Usually a single-word grade badge | Report card layout, QR badge to your report |
| Famly, Ovivio and eyworks enquiry forms | Manual embed | Quoted as an extra | Included, or a plain form into your inbox if you use no software |
| A page for each district you draw from | Rare | Charged per page | In every package above Starter |
| Who owns the files | The platform | Varies, ask before you sign | You, on completion, as plain HTML |
| Time to live | A weekend to a month of your evenings | 6 to 12 weeks is typical | 2 to 6 weeks |

Bring us a look you like, or nothing at all
A competitor's site you admire, a colour, a mood board, a photo of your baby room. We design around it. These six show the range, not the menu. Pick one as a starting point, bring a site you love, or describe something nobody has built yet. You are never limited to these six: we design whatever your nursery needs.

Firefly Nursery
The team designed and developed our new website and continue to work with us on an ongoing basis through their SEO and AI Visibility package. They’re helping us strengthen our presence on Google and across emerging AI search platforms, so more local parents can discover our nursery online. It’s great having one team looking after both our website and our long-term digital visibility.
Oak Tree Nursery
We wanted a website that really captured the warmth and personality of our nursery and gave parents confidence in choosing us. The finished website does exactly that. It showcases our setting beautifully, explains what we offer clearly and makes it incredibly easy for prospective parents to arrange a visit or get in touch.
More enquiries from local parents
Our new website has made a huge difference to our online presence. Parents can quickly understand what makes our nursery special and easily take the next step to arrange a visit. We’ve had fantastic feedback on how professional, welcoming and easy to use the website is.
The technical part, in plain terms
The site is plain, fast HTML with no plug-ins to update and nothing to break. It loads quickly on a phone on the school run, which is where most parents read it. Every page carries structured data so Google and AI assistants can read your opening hours, age range, area and fees without guessing. Maps are embedded without tracking cookies. Analytics loads only after a visitor agrees. Hosting, backups and updates are covered by the £50 a month care plan, which is additional to the build.
Questions nursery owners ask
How many pages does a nursery website need?
A single setting usually needs eight to twelve: home, rooms (one each), fees and funded hours, a typical day, admissions, about and team, policies, careers, contact, and a page for each district you draw from. Groups need a section per setting.
Can you write the content?
Yes. We draft every page from your brief and you edit in writing. The fees page uses your numbers; the rest uses what you tell us about the setting. We do not invent claims, awards or reviews.
Do we need new photos?
No. The design works with colour and illustration until you have images with signed consent. We never use stock photos of children, because parents recognise them and inspectors ask about them.
What if Ofsted inspects us mid-build?
The Ofsted section is built to take either a legacy grade or a report card, so the change is a content edit, not a redesign. It happens within the care plan.
How much does a nursery website cost?
A nursery website in the UK costs between about £1,000 and £6,000 as a one-off build, plus £20 to £60 a month to keep it running. Ours are £1,495 for a single setting of up to eight pages, £2,995 for an established nursery and £5,995 for a group of two or more, with a £50 a month care plan on top. Monthly-only offers from £15 to £40 exist, but you usually rent the site rather than own it.
How long does it take to build a nursery website?
Two to five weeks for a single setting, three to five for an established nursery, four to six for a group. The clock starts when your brief is complete. The slow part is almost always waiting for fees, room details and staff names, so the faster you send those the sooner it is live.
Will our website meet Ofsted and EYFS requirements?
Ofsted does not inspect or approve websites, so no website is "Ofsted compliant" and you should be careful of anyone selling that phrase. What a website can do is show your inspection outcome accurately. Since November 2025 inspections produce a colour-coded report card across evaluation areas instead of one overall word, so we build the section to display the areas and link to your published report.
Does it cost money to keep a website running?
Yes. A domain is roughly £10 to £20 a year, hosting £50 to £200 a year, and updates and security either your own time or a care plan. Ours is £50 a month and covers the domain, hosting, backups, security monitoring, one mailbox and one minor change a year. It is optional and you can leave with 30 days notice.
What is a fair price to pay for a website?
For a small UK business, a freelance build is typically £800 to £3,000 and an agency build £2,500 to £10,000 (Duport, June 2026). A fair price is one quoted as a fixed figure in advance, with the page list written down, the revision rounds stated, and the files yours at the end. Anything quoted only after a phone call usually varies by who is asking.
Do we own the website at the end?
Yes. On completion and full payment the files are yours, as plain HTML with no proprietary platform to be locked into. Domains we register go in your name where the registrar allows it, and transfer to you free of charge whenever you ask, including if you stop the care plan.
Do we need nursery software for the website to work?
No. If you use Famly, Ovivio, eyworks or Nursery in a Box we embed their enquiry form so leads are tracked from the first click. If you use none of them, the form emails the enquiry straight to your inbox and nothing else is needed. Plenty of settings run happily on the second option.
